October 2024
5,350 words
Content warnings: death, murder, mention of suicide
A nineteenth-century leech collector finds help in the local sealfolk after finding out she might lose her home.

Mary straightened up from where she was hunched over the water, wincing as the cold September air sunk into the weeping bite marks on her calves. She peeled the leeches free and placed them into a pouch lined with damp cloth. Enough for Doctor Castrell, and enough for her mother too. Her mother was due another blood-letting session, considering how clammy she’d felt when Mary left for the Highland marshes.

“SANDMAN'S LOAM”

Ethereal Nightmares: an Anthology of Twisted Tales from Dark Holme Publishing
May 2024
5,600 words
Content warnings: death; memory loss
A woman seeks answers to her mother’s disappearance in the Sandman.

Fourteen nights after my mother was presumed dead, Sandman showed himself to me. Before then, he’d appeared as eyes knuckled from dust – a sore, raw-thick grit that crusted beneath my lids.

. . . this one might hit some people extra hard.

“KEEP CALM AND SMILE”

Creepy Podcast
May 2024
2,070 words
Content warnings: blood; gore, including that of the mouth and teeth
How far would one go for a smile?

The woman on the TV advert has unnaturally white teeth, like she has swallowed a whole tin of house paint. She holds the toothpaste between her slender fingers, an image printed on the front that looks like the same woman but not quite, and you find that strange, but, hey, as long as the stuff works, which pushes you to log onto the website and place an order.
